Historic Depot Square.
Located along Front Street in downtown Evanston, Historic Depot Square is a central gathering spot for local events. Recreational activities are encouraged as well on the sand volleyball courts and ball field. Buildings of note include the Union Pacific Train Depot, Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Uinta County Museum and Andrew Carnegie Library. Uinta County Museum. The museum focuses on the general history of Uinta County and Wyoming. Permanent exhibits feature extensive collections of Chinese artifacts, arrowheads, Native American artifacts, clothing, pioneer relics and photographs. Bear River State Park is located in the extreme southwestern portion of Wyoming near the Bear River. Hike the trails, view the bison and elk herds, fish Bear River Cutthroat Trout or just relax under a large cottonwood tree. The park, which is available for day use only, offers three shelters for events ranging from family reunions to company picnics and weddings. Fossil Butte National Monument. This 50-million year old lake bed is one of the richest fossil sites in the world, displaying the unique interrelationship of plants, insects, fishes, reptiles and mammals. Recorded in limestone are dynamic and complete paleo-ecosystems that spanned two million years. Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
Utah’s Flaming Gorge Reservoir offers spectacular outdoor activities, including boating, fishing, camping, biking and hiking. The Green River flows through the region, providing blue ribbon trout fishing and exciting whitewater rafting while the Uinta Mountains shelter hundreds of lakes and streams teaming with trout.
These are the highest mountains in Utah and offer great opportunities for hiking, backpacking and horse or llama packing. Dinosaurs roamed this area and left countless fossils and footprints. For more information, visit http://www.utah.com/vernal

Geothermal wonders, such as Old Faithful, are evidence of one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. Historic Chinatown & Joss House. The Chinese played an important part in Evanston’s cultural and economic history, working as laborers for the Union Pacific Railroad and as miners in the Almy coalmines north of town. The Chinese population flourished from the late 1870’s to the early 1920’s. In 1922, their Joss House (house of prayer) mysteriously burned to the ground. Fort Bridger State Historic Site.
Established by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez in 1843 as an emigrant supply stop along the Oregon Trail, Fort Bridger became a military outpost in 1858. Abandoned during the Civil War and after, it remained U.S. government property until 1890. This historic site features several restored buildings from the war and a reconstruction of the trading post operated by Jim Bridger. A museum containing artifacts from the various different historical time periods is housed in the 1888 stone barracks building. Walk, jog, bike or roller blade along the greenway main trail from Bear River Drive to Bear River State Park. The main trail follows the Bear River linking Evanston’s historic downtown with the ice ponds, nature trails and live elk and buffalo exhibits at the park.
